In order to help evaluate possible mechanisms of superconductivity, we have prepared a new member of the RBa2Cu3O7 series, CmBa2Cu3O7. The X-ray powder diffraction pattern was obtained for a single phase compound, isostructural with the orthorhombic phase of YBa2Cu3O7. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that CmBa2Cu3O7 is not superconducting. There is evidence of long-range magnetic ordering at 22 K. These results are compared with the behavior of PrBa2Cu3O7, the only other nonsuperconducting compound with the YBa2Cu3O7 structure.
