To arrive at an "agreeable" interval of grooves in wood wall-panels, small size (about 300 cm2) mimic panels drawn by a plotter, full-size panels (120 x 180 cm), and photos of panels with different numbers of grooves were prepared. Questionnaires regarding their psychological images also were distributed using these specimens or panels. Results were as follows: 1) Little influence of the panel-size ratio (vertical to horizontal) on an "agreeable" interval of grooves was observed. 2) The effect of the distance of observation of the panels on the "agreeable" interval was small. 3) The "agreeable" interval of grooves is near 1/6 to 1/10 of the geometrical average of vertical and horizontal sizes of panels or specimens. 4) Ribbon figures on full-size panels of manggasinoro (Shorea philippinensis Brandis) have an influence on the "agreeable" interval, that is, a wider interval of grooves was preferred.
