At the dawn of Modernity, Descartes reflects on happiness re-turning to Seneca's De vita beata. Undertaking to fill his letters with considerations drawn from Seneca, Descartes initiates a correspondence with princess Elisabeth that will focuse on the definition of Sovereign good, classical theme of moral philosophy in Antiquity, and the means of obtaining it and its relation to happiness.
