THE BEHAVIOR OF VERY LOOSE SAND IN THE TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION TEST - DISCUSSION

The authors have presented an interesting study on the mechanical behaviour of sand. Following the concepts of the Cam-clay model, the paper deals with constitutive description of very loose sand. The paper is closely related to the results of the recent research activity in the Institute of Soil Mechanics and Rock Mechanics, Karlsruhe University, delving into the mechanical behaviour of granular materials both experimentally and theoretically. Another experimental programme also included a rather extensive test series on loose sand. Since tests with very loose sand are very rare, a brief review of the latter tests might help the supplementing and checking of some issues in the paper. The results of the experimental programme are briefly reviewed, followed by several questions on the paper.
