摘要
Ni-Cr-Mo Steel was chosen for this study to obtain a high hardenability and avoid the development of nonmartensitic microstructure near the surface. The reason for the characteristic fatigue behavior in carburized steel with internal oxides is basically the same as that for carburized steel with surface structure anomalies. The internal oxides near the surface can be the preferential crack initiation zone. It is desirable to avoid the development of such a surface defect during carburizing. Vacuum carburizing is a potential process. Shot peening is another effective surface treatment.
