RATE OF ABSORPTION OF CO2 IN A MIXED-SOLVENT

The kinetic rate of absorption of CO2 in a mixed solvent consisting of 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), sulfolane, and water was measured within the temperature range 15-45-degrees-C. The density, viscosity, solubility, and diffusivity involved in the calculation procedure were measured over a range of temperatures from 5 to 85-degrees-C. Compared with an aqueous AMP solution, the addition of sulfolane has a negative effect on the CO2 apparent absorption rate. Although the absorption rate is slightly lower than that for the aqueous solution, it will not lead to a decrease in the quantity of gas treated since the absorption capacity of the mixed solvent is greater.
