THE HIGH-RESOLUTION INNER-VALENCE PHOTOELECTRON-SPECTRUM OF H2S INDUCED BY MONOCHROMATIC AL K-ALPHA X-RAYS

摘要
The H2S molecule has been studied by means of high resolution photoelectron spectroscopy. Monochromatized Al K-alpha (1487 eV) radiation at 90-degrees was used to excite the photoelectrons. An extended energy region of the valence electron spectrum has been recorded. Part of the innervalence spectrum may be unambiguously compared to the highly resolved ultraviolet electron spectrum recorded previously by using the HeII line (40.8 eV) at 90-degrees. By determining the relative branching ratios of the bands observed in the 21-25 eV range, at two largely different photon energies, it is confirmed that in contrast to the surrounding bands, two narrow lines of different character arise. Nevertheless the X-ray excited spectrum shows that the breakdown of the simple orbital picture is even more efficient in the case of H2S than has been found, e.g. in the cases of HCl and Ar.
