Possible Utilizations of UML Editors in the Field of Packaging Machines from an OEM's perspective

Analyzing programs of modular packaging machines, the software complexity becomes apparent. This article shows how object-oriented features and UML editors integrated in CoDeSys V3 can facilitate efficient implementation of IEC libraries and machine programs. Applications of state charts, class diagrams and activity diagrams are presented. Class diagrams are suited for structured module design; state charts include cyclical process in the form of new modeling elements; state charts can be used in many locations of the machine program such as for modeling the PackML operation modes. Integrated into the development environment, the editors provide further benefits. Hence, this is an integrated tool supporting the developer in specification, design, implementation and documentation.
