PRODUCTION AND BIOCHEMICAL-STUDIES ON CHICK-EMBRYOS UNDER COLD STRESS

Effect of cold stress (10-degrees-C for 30 min) during a critical period of hypothalamo-hypophysial-adrenal system (HHAS) of chick embryo on some production and biochemical traits was studied. Eggs exposed to cold stress for days 12 (group 1) and 16 (group 2) of incubation had higher hatchability and lower (P<0.05) mortality than the control group (group C). Blood sugar increased whereas glycogen in liver decreased at 0, 15 (P<0.01) and 30 min (P<0.05) post-cooling for group; 2 in comparison with group C. Cold stress on day 16 of incubation had beneficial effects on productive traits.
