摘要
Introduction: Dental anomalies of number can influence the balance of the stomatognathic system, which makes relevant the knowledge of its prevalence. In Portugal there are few studies on this subject. Aim: The main goal of our study was to obtain data about the prevalence of abnormalities in the number of teeth through analysis of panoramic radiographs from patients treated at the clinic of the Oporto Faculty of Dental Medicine and then compare the obtained data with previously published data. Results: We obtained a prevalence of dental agenesis, considering permanent teeth, of 12.23 %, including 3rd molars and 6.47 % if we exclude these teeth. The prevalence obtained for supernumerary teeth was 0.72 % in both dentitions. Conclusion: The results of this study are consistent with those previously described for the Portuguese population, except in the localization and sex preference on the case of supernumerary teeth.
