A brief account is given of diabetic retinopathy, with reference being made to epidemiology, development of the disease, diagnosis, classification or grading, and possible therapeutic action. Photocoagulation is discussed in greater detail as an optional therapy, together with indications, possible complications, and after-care. An ophthalmological follow-up regime is, finally recommended.
