摘要
The article deals with one of the topical questions of language and culture studies - ethnic identity (on the example of one of the parts of the UK - Wales). Ethnic stereotyping is only understandable in the context of the current social discussions about national identity and is built up on the image of the "self" and "the other" clear awareness of self national - cultural identity is a national reaction of many ethnic groups to a well-known depersonalization of their identity in the conditions of a globalization process and interculturalization. The Welsh, not aimed at forming its own independent state, do their best to maintain their unique culture and preserve national language, which are the main factors of national self-identity of Wales.
