The 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of poly(acrylamide) (PAA) in D2O at a temperature of 343 K were analyzed by two-dimensional NMR (2D NMR) methods including 1H J-resolved spectroscopy, F1-axis (1H) broad-band decoupled correlation spectroscopy, and 1H broad-band decoupled 13 C-1H chemical shift correlation spectroscopy. Combined use of these 2D NMR methods provided absolute assignments of 1H and 13C spectra at the triad-tetrad level. At the pentad-hexad level, the 13C spectra were assigned by the aid of spectral simulation. The polymerization of PAA proceeds in a Bernoulli-trial process with Pm=0.45.
