摘要
The emerging Fibre Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) uses a dual counter-rotating ring topology based on optical fibre links. Normally one ring is active, and the second one only stands by to increase reliability. This paper describes possible concepts using both rings under normal working conditions, without losing the fault-tolerance provided by ring reconfiguration around error situations. Consequences for management and system structure are outlined Particular attention is given to the broad spectrum of standard-conformant possibilities of FDDI modes and topologies. Finally, we present our concept for an FDDI station which uses both rings and the related station management
