Radiative heating of plastic foils has been studied by time-resolved soft x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. The ASTERIX IV laser beam was converted to x rays in closed An microcavities which heated the foils and in the mean time it served as a backlighter to absorption spectroscopy. Radiative burnthrough of CH targets was investigated from 1 to nearly 100 eV temperature using both absorption and emission spectroscopy. Reemission of plastic foils of pure CH was compared with F, O and Cl containing plastics. Reemission increases with increasing Z corresponding to the increased continuum radiation.
