HISTOLOGIC STUDY OF OGUCHIS DISEASE - ITS RELATIONSHIP TO PIGMENTARY DEGENERATION OF RETINA

1. 1. This histologic study of the eyes of a patient with Oguchi's disease represents the third reported autopsy investigation. 2. 2. Cases of Oguchi's disease were diagnosed in the two surviving male siblings of the patient. The parents were second cousins. The father suffered from pigmentary degeneration of the retina; the mother had the same disease without pigment. 3. 3. Histologic examination demonstrated: (a) no distinct layer" in Oguchi's disease; (b) few displaced cone nuclei; (c) pigment granules in the nerve-fiber layer (a new observation); (e) few findings different from those already reported. 4. 4. The results of my study strongly suggest a relationship between Oguchi's disease and pigmentary degeneration of the retina. © 1969."
