In investigating six species of fish in the Lower Volga, a significant effect of the grounds on the level of digestive enzymes' activity was established (a reduction in activity of gastric proteinases, and inhibition or, less often, stimulation of hydrolases of the intestines' mucous membrane). On the example of bream, it was shown that the observed effect depends on the type and localization of the ground (an increase in the inhibiting effect of the same type of ground on proteinase activity at stations closer to the mouth of the Volga River).
