摘要
Hot-wires of different sensitive lengths and diameters have been used to obtain spectra of longitudinal velocity fluctuations at one location in a boundary layer and at three locations in a diffuser flow. These spectra reveal the energy containing regions more prominently. Further, they show spatial filtering of eddies smaller than the lengths of the hot-wires and also demonstrate the loss of energy due to heat conduction to supporting prongs, sheaths and platings. In conclusion this study gives a definite choice for the construction of the hot-wire that is most adequate to elicit the physical picture of turbulence.
