摘要
To protect the public and the environment, radioactive substances must be handled, stored and controlled under safe conditions. Arisings of radioactive waste must be minimized in order to protect the resources of valuable materials. In disposal, a distinction must be made between radioactive and "cleared" materials, on the one hand, and waste, on the other hand. This distinction is provided by clearance measurements or measurements serving as a basis for decisionmaking. The technical measurement systems required for this purpose have reached a high level of sophistication, thus allowing even the low clearance levels in Germany to be attained. The measurement techniques to be employed depend on the type of material to be measured, on measurement conditions, and on what is to be done with the materials measured.
