Foreign policy decisions in contemporary Indonesia are prerogatives of the ruling elite and bureaucracy. Business circles and public opinion do not play an important role in this process. A number of documents adopted in the first decade of XXI century form the judicial basis of Indonesian foreign policy and governmental offices and structures needed for its implementation. The main feature of Indonesian foreign policy is nationalism. At the same time, Indonesia is trying to strengthen its political positions in the Southeast Asian region, in Islamic world and on international arena.
