A study of lighting system performance in partitioned spaces

This paper presents the results of a study involving the computer simulation of work-plane illuminance reduction and uniformity in partitioned spaces across a variety of lighting systems and partition configurations. Parameters addressed are partition height, partition reflectance, presence of an overhead cabinet, luminaire distribution type, and luminaire layout. Illuminance on a desk in a workstation cubicle and general work-plane uniformity were analyzed using a computer model developed for this study. The results, which compare lighting system performance for a variety of different space and layout configurations, should benefit both designers and manufacturers.
