CORRELATION FOR DROP SIZE IN LIQUID/LIQUID SPRAY COLUMNS

A single equation is presented which predicts the drop size in liquid/liquid spray columns up to the critical nozzle velocity: phi(32)/d = (E) over dot(-0.38){1.28(Delta rho/rho(d))(0.30) + exp(-0.16Fr)} with an average deviation of 9.7%. This can be reduced to 7.3% if two regions are considered separated by a critical nozzle diameter: phi(32)/d = (E) over dot(-0.40){2.13(Delta rho/rho(d))(0.67) + exp(-0.13Fr)} for (E) over dot < 0.40 and phi(32)/d = (E) over dot(-0.42){1.24 + exp(-Fr(0.42))} for (E) over dot <= 0.40
