VARIATION OF THE OXYGEN-CONTENT OF LEAD-CONTAINING CUPRATES

The variation of oxygen content with temperature and oxygen partial pressure has been studied by DTA, TGA, X-ray diffraction and iodometry for Pb0.5SrLaCu1.5Ox, x approximately 5, (La, Pb)2SrCu2Ox, x approximately 5.6, Pb2SrLaCu2Ox, x = 6-7.9, Pb2Sr2Y0.5Ca0.5Cu3Ox, x = 8-9.6 and PbBaSrYCu3Ox, x = 7-8. The compounds Pb2SrLaCu2Ox and Pb2Sr2Y0.5Ca0.5Cu3Ox containing CuO chains as in Ba2YCu3O7 behave differently - they are semiconducting at high oxygen content. Pb0.5SrLaCu1.5Ox and (La, Pb)2SrCu2Ox with little volatilization of PbO can be used as precursors for the preparation of Pb2SrLaCu2Ox.
