摘要
The compound BaNb0.8Se3 was prepared from BaSe, Nb, and elemental selenium in a sealed silica tube at 800-degrees-C. The structure was refined from X-ray powder diffraction data, using a Rietveld profile analysis, which yielded the following residuals: R = 9.46 %, R(wp) = 9.25 %, R(bragg) = 9.73 %. The compound has the BaVS3 structure type (space group P6(3)/mmc) with a = 7.1216(5) and c = 5.9796(5) angstrom. Pertinent bond distances (A) are: Nb-Nb = 2.990(1); Ba-Se = 3.562(6), 3.576(6); Nb-Se = 2.618(9). Magnetic susceptibility and resistivity studies showed the compound to be diamagnetic (chi0 = -7.8 x 10(-5) emu/mol) and semiconducting with a 0.1 eV activation energy.
