NEUTRAL COMPLEXES OF GALLIUM DIIODIDE CONTAINING GA-GA BONDS

The complexes Ga2I4.2L (L = pyridine, 2-methylpyridine, 3-methylpyridine, 4-methylpyridine, morpholine, N-methylmorpholine, 1,4-dioxan, tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyran, dimethylsulphide, diethylsulphide, tetrahydrothiophene, 1,4-thioxan, 1,4-dithiane and tetramethylbiphosphine) have been prepared. Vibrational spectra indicate that the complexes adopt disubstituted ethane-like structures containing Ga-Ga bonds. We were unable to synthesize complexes of stoichiometry Ga2I4.4L which had previously been reported.
