The authors analyse the results of medically assisted procreation with frozen donor sperm from the sperm bank of the Fondation de Recherche en Hormonologie in Paris. In the case of artificial insemination (AID) with precise monitoring of ovulation and one straw only per cycle, the theoretical cumulative success rate is 71 % and the actual cumulative rate is 62 % after the 12 th cycle. Study of the curve of the cumulative rates shows it corresponds to a two parameters model which explains the progressive reduction in success rates according to the number of the attempts. In vitro fertilization with frozen sperm gives as good results as with normal fresh sperm of the partner. The shift to IVF-D after failure of AID does not appear to be justified before the 18th cycle when the success rate per attempt and the delay between attempts is taken into consideration.
