Luca Baccelli and Pietro Costa discuss Geminello Preterossi's Cio che resta della democrazia (What Remains of Democracy). The authors present the main theses developed in the book and critically analyze them. Baccelli deals with the traditional Modern roots of contemporary politics and asks whether the recognition of an "alternative" Modernity could enrich Preterossi's analysis of democracy. Costa focuses on the relationships between the sovereign and the subject, on the one hand, and between rights and conflict, on the other, presenting them as the cornerstones of Preterossi's book.
