As psychogenic diseases are summarized neuroses, personality disorders, and functional psychosomatic disorders. Up to now statements on the genetics of these disorders have been possible only via the phenotypical level of research. The link with the molecular biological level is still largely unknown. Nevertheless, the classical twin method, as well as adoptive and genealogical research studies, brought directive results, provided that the respective methods have been applied correctly and interpreted critically. The research methodologies of clinicians working with diagnoses according to certain categories and of psychologists operationalizing by dimensional theories and tests considerably differ from each other. Here especially the psychogenic disorders have an intermediate position. - For a lot of disorders genetic determinants of differing significance have been found.
