摘要
The thermal characteristics of wool samples of three different origins were studied with the help of a differential thermal analyzer mainly by an analysis of the doublet endotherm at 220-260-degrees-C, which relates to thermal stability. Among the three wools studied, thermal stability was found to be the highest in Lincoln, followed by Chokla and Merino wools. Differences in the thermal stability of the three wools were related to structural differences, viz. ortho/para content, order in the crystallite phase, and proportion of bulky side groups in the matrix. The enhancement of the thermal stability shown by stretch-set samples was related to the improvement Of order in the structure when the sample was set at temperatures below the melting temperature.
