The leaves from a forest stand were treated with experimental rainfall of pH 6.0 in short duration laboratory washing measurements. Chloride and potassium followed negative exponential foliar element wash off curves. Potassium leaching from foliage may occur with dry deposition wash off. The time for completion of element wash off from leaves was in the range 6-9 minutes. Potassium was washed from leaf surfaces at a faster rate than was chloride. There are differences in dry deposition wash off of potassium amount between tree species. Wash off amount of potassium was greater for the hornbeam than for the beech. The technique used in this study appears to produce an accurate estimate of previous dry deposition to leaf surfaces.
