PROGNOSTIC FACTORS IN EPITHELIAL OVARIAN CANCER

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine of the clinical and demographic features and the factors that have impact on prognosis in ovarian cancer. Study design: This was a retrospective analysis of epithelial ovarian cancer in patients who were diagnosed and treated in Haseki Teach and Research Hospital between 2002 and 2008. Simple statistics and univariate and multivariable analysis were performed with SPSS 13.0 program. Results: Sixty six patients met the inclusion criteria; most of the patiens had stage 3 disease (62%) and serous hystology (84%) and grade 3 tumors (40%). Tumors had recurred in 39 patients (59%) and 26 patients (39.4%) had died and the median progression free survival (PFS) was 18.3 months and overall survival (OS) was 28.3 months at the time of analysis. A multivariable analysis of survival that was adjusted for covariates which were used in univariate analysis (HR for PFS = 23.80, 95% CI = 6.27 to 90.35, and HR for OS = 32.88, 95% CI = 9.24 to 116.2, in the platinum sensitive patients), (HR for PFS = 2.77, 95% CI = 1.37 to 5.60, and HR for OS = 2.54, 95% CI = 1.12 to 4.90, in the optimally debulked patients), (HR for PFS = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.21 to 1.04, and HR for OS = 0.29, 95% CI = 0.09 to 0.85, in the patients with positive cytology). Conclusion: Patients with platinum sensitivity, negative peritoneal washing and optimally surgery have favorable prognosis in EOC.
