DESORPTION OF HYDROGEN FROM SM2FE17 - THE ROLE OF WATER

摘要
Powders of Sm2Fe17 (and other iron-rich rare earth intermetallics) which have been exposed to ambient air or treated in water are found to desorb hydrogen when heated above 250 degrees C in vacuum or in a relatively inert gas such as N-2. The source of hydrogen is shown to be a layer of water approximately 100 nm thick on the surface of the powder particles.
