摘要
Prior experiments have demonstrated that sound localization behavior in barn owls is calibrated by visual experience during development. We have now begun to investigate how visual experience influences the representation of auditory space in the barn owls' brain. We have identified visually guided changes in the spatial tuning of auditory neurons within the optic tectum (OT) that parallel changes in sound localization behavior, and have found that these changes in the OT can be explained by plasticity at an earlier stage in the auditory pathway: the inferior colliculus.
