MALFORMATIONS OF AORTIC VALVE IN PATIENTS WITH TETRALOGY OF FALLOT

Anatomic malformations of the aortic valve were observed in 5 of 45 patients with the tetralogy of Fallot studied at necropsy. In one, the valve was congenitally bicuspid and incompetent. A second had probable rheumatic aortic stenosis. Clinically insignificant fusion of 2 aortic valvular cusps was found in each of 2 patients, and a fifth had vegetative endocarditis without organisms. Aortic valvular lesions in patients with Fallot's tetralogy have been described only rarely in the past. © 1968.
