THE SINTERING APPARENT ACTIVATION-ENERGY OF (U(0.8), TH(0.2))O(2) IN REDUCING THE OXIDIZING ATMOSPHERES

摘要
In this study, the sintering apparent activation energy of (U0.8, Th0.2)O2 is investigated in the first-stage sintering (600-degrees-C-1100-degrees-C) using the vertical dilatometer. With the aid of the shrinkage curves, the apparent activation energy and the diffusion coefficients are calculated under 75% H-2 + 25% N2 (P(O2) = 10(-15) atm) and CO2 (P(O2) = 10(-6) atm) atmospheres. The atmosphere has affected the activation energy and the diffusion mechanism. The activation energy is calculated to be about 339 kJ/mol (81 kcal/mol) in reducing atmosphere and 294.7 kJ/mol (70.5 kcal/mol) in oxidizing atmosphere.
