摘要：

The essence of a document, as well as of any other object (thing) lies in its features, properties, and functions. The works that focus on document-theory problems do not seem to distinguish between these concepts and they thus need to be put in agreement. The purpose of this article is to define the essential properties of a document as an information object and social phenomenon.
