Tests on susceptibility of titanium and its welded joints to local corrosion in sea-water

摘要
In this paper corrosion tests of titanium and its welded joints are presented. TIG, laser beam and electron beam welding methods were used to make the welded joints. Visual inspection of specimens that were exposed for 1000 hours in natural sea water at temperature of 65 degrees C, showed crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion attack both on parent material and in welded joints. Specimens cut out from TIG welded joints with application of filler metal had the highest corrosion rate and the highest number of corrosion pits in comparison to specimens cut out from titanium and other welded joints.
