Two cases of intrapontine tumour are reported in which the main sign was persistent unilateral tonic facial spasm. Various pathogenetic hypotheses are reviewed; the authors suggest the existence of a lesion at nuclear level which may be assumed to suppress the activity of some inhibitory circuits. © 1968.
