摘要
An attempt is made to summarize what is known concerning fracture- and deformation-related acoustic emission in brittle systems. Following a review of the basic principles of acoustic emission, the sources of acoustic emission typically encountered in brittle systems are examined, include macrocrack propagation, microcracking, and plastic deformation. Applications of acoustic emission to basic studies of crack propagation processes and failure indication are described, noting the deficiencies which are presently limiting the more extensive application of this technique.
