摘要
Deformation induced transformation of the Frank-Kasper cubic Mg32(Al, Zn)49 phase into a quasicrystalline phase was studied with high resolution transmission electron microscopy with lattice resolution. In the early stage of deformation the icosahedral phase topotactically nucleates due to the appearance of rotational defects and lattice plane disordering; the 3-fold axis of the icosahedral phase is parallel to the [443BAR] zone axis of the cubic phase. In the latter stage icosahedral nuclei grow in a manner similar to that in topochemical solid state reactions.
