Notes on the relationship between independence and culture. Recording and publishing cases in the city of Buenos Aires in comparative key

Current proliferation of independent productions among the many cultural fields constitutes a peculiar sign of the last ten years in Argentina. Within the framework of a progressive official recognition of the economic importance of cultural industries, the editorial and record productions become two significant cases of this process. Both have shown a group of initiatives, undertakings and projects which, emphasizing independence, propose to create and recreate the music and literature industries. Given the absence of a precise conceptualization of the relation between independence and culture, we explore through the mentioned cases its multiple definitions, symbolic and material characteristics and also the conflicts and tensions that take place here. With this objective, we appeal to a qualitative perspective based on the analysis of actors voices obtained through in-depth interviews.
