ON THE MECHANISM OF COKE FORMATION IN STEAM CRACKING - CONCLUSIONS FROM RESULTS OBTAINED BY TRACER EXPERIMENTS

摘要
Coke formation from 68 **1**4C-labeled hydrocarbons used in small amounts as a constituents of a straight-run naphtha was investigated at 810 degree C. Although in line with the literature the coking rates on Cr-Ni steel are higher than one quartz or platinum. No significant differences could be found in the selectivity of coke formation on surfaces of different materials. This observation indicates that surface properties control only the number and not the nature of active centers responsible for coke formation from gas phase hydrocarbon species.
