Prevalence of Nosocomial Infection by Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Epidermidis in Tertiary Care Hospitals of Karachi

Aim: To determine the prevalence of nosocomial infections by methicillin resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis. Place and duration of study: The study was conducted in the department of Microbiology, Basic Medical Sciences Institute, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi, during the period of February 2011 to February 2012. Methods: A total of 250 subjects of all ages and gender were included. Blood samples, urine, sputum, swab from infected wounds, dialysis fluid, peritoneal fluid, and pleural fluid. CSF were collected from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, National Institute of Child Health, Karachi and processed according to standard laboratory methods. Results: A total 98 methicillin resistant Staphylococcus, epidermidis, causing nosocomial infections isolated from 250 patients. MRSE were commonly isolated from patients of all ages who developed nosocomial infections.
