Development of the surface morphology of laser-ablated epitaxial thin films of YBa2Cu3O7-delta on MgO

摘要：
Laser-ablated epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin films on (001)MgO substrates have been examined using scanning tunnelling microscopy. The characteristic growth spirals are not observed for film thicknesses of <35nm which is consistent with them being formed at the emergent threading segments of dislocation half-loops introduced in response to residual misfit strain. The variation in spiral density with film thickness is discussed.
