LIPID PROCTITIS

PROCTITIS is characterized by tenesmus, diarrhea and rectal pain. Through proctoscopy and histological, bacteriological, and parasitological studies it can be categorized into infectious, ischemic, radiation-induced, toxic, granulomatous or nonspecific ulcerative proctitis. We report a patient whose clinical manifestations seem related to the presence of lipid within the rectal mucosa. Case Report A 45-year-old woman presented with intermittent left-lower-quadrant abdominal pain, tenesmus and a rectal discharge of six months’ duration. The pain was unrelated to food or position, and the discharge appeared purulent. There was no fever, anorexia, weight loss, hematochezia, diarrhea or rectal pain.
