WALL EFFECT IN PACKED COLUMNS

摘要
The Ergun equation, which relates the pressure drop in a packed column to the rate of flow of a fluid through it, was modified to include the wall effect. Pressure drop and flow rate data can be more accurately related when the friction due to the wall surface area is taken into account. This correction is especially important when the ratio of column to particle diameter is less than 50 to 1. Experiments with column to particle diameter ratios ranging from 91:1 to 7:1 were performed; the results agreed with the results expected from the modified Ergun relation. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
