We have studied the magnetic resonance of protons in antiferromagnetic CuCl2·2H2O when hydrogen is replaced by deuterium in a proportion c. We show that the deuteration involves a diminution of the magnetization in the ground state and a diminution of the Néel temperature, both proportional to the deuterium concentration c. We explain these effects by a diminution of the ferromagnetic exchange integral between next-nearest neighbors due to the difference between zero-point energies of hydrogen and deuterium. © 1968 The American Institute of Physics.
