摘要
AMBU-KISS is a protocol designed to create a reference database on post-surgical wound infections for facilities involved in ambulatory surgery. A total of 102 centers collected data from October 2002 through June 2007 on surgical site infections after arthroscopic knee surgery. There were 61 cases of infection following 73,165 operations resulting in a mean value of 0.08 (i.e. on average 0.08 infections occurred after 100 operations). Preoperative hair removal for reasons of hygiene is not necessary for arthroscopic knee surgery. However, if hair removal is necessary for technical reasons it should be carried out immediately before surgery. A general antibiotic prophylaxis is also not recommended for arthroscopic knee surgery. A survey showed that the participating centers have different policies regarding pre-operative hair removal and antibiotic prophylaxis.
