Background. Cancer of the cervix/vagina represents 6% of all the malignancies among women in Slovenia and occupies fourth place on the scale of all cancers. Methods and results. In the period between 1975 and 1984, 188 patients with invasive uterine cervix carcinoma were treated at the Gynaecology Department of Maribor Teaching Hospital. The average age of our patients was 53.2 years. The diagnosis was most often set during the first stage of disease. The patients were treated operatively (38.8%), by radiotherapy (45.2%) and by the combination of both. The total 5-year survival period amounts to 65.4%. The best results were detected in stage I (91.5%), in stage II were 67.4%, in stage III 21.3% and in stage IV 0%.
