The paper describes an approach to the design of an automatic assembly line. As an example, the design of the automation of the assembly of bimetallic thermostats was taken. The design consisted of several phases. The first one was the analysis of design from the point of view of technology and automation of assembly. This phase was followed by the choice of technology as a basis for design documentation. The design was concluded by drawing a flow-chart showing how the machine was working, which was taken as a basis for carrying out the control. The assembly is one of the largest cost- -factors and has to be considered with utmost care in the production process.
